Minister Clement announces FedNor investment to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the Muskoka region
KILWORTHY, Ontario, April 10, 2012 — The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister for FedNor, today announced a Government of Canada investment of more than $900,000 to help create jobs and support business development and growth in the Muskoka region.
"The Government of Canada is proud to partner with organizations, such as Muskoka Futures, to help strengthen the economy, create jobs and position communities throughout the area for sustainable growth and prosperity,” said Minister Clement. “This FedNor investment will provide entrepreneurs in the Muskoka region with access to the resources they need to develop and grow their business and succeed in the global economy.”
FedNor funding of $900,000 will enable Muskoka Futures to provide small and medium-sized businesses with access to capital and business counselling services, as well as support for regional community economic development and planning activities for a three-year period. An additional $27,500 will allow the organization to hire a youth intern. The intern’s responsibilities will include a variety of activities such as marketing, strategic planning and the consolidation of online business services offered in the Muskoka region.
“Muskoka Futures has a proud history of encouraging entrepreneurship and creating business opportunities in our service area,” said Rick Hallam, Chair of Muskoka Futures. “Today’s announcement will allow us to build on our past success and continue to strengthen the economic foundation of the Muskoka region.”
Funding for these projects was provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development and Community Futures Programs, which support initiatives that strengthen community economic development, enhance business growth and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
