Minister Clement announces FedNor investment to support economic development and growth in the French River area
FRENCH RIVER, Ontario, May 16, 2012 — The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister for FedNor, today announced a Government of Canada investment of $21,825 to support economic development and growth in the Municipality of French River.
"Sound planning is at the core of any successful community economic development efforts,” said Minister Clement. “This investment will help municipal and business leaders identify and pursue opportunities for private-sector investment and job creation in the French River area.”
The FedNor funding will enable the Municipality of French River to develop a community-based economic development plan with a five-year outlook. Among other things, the project will include community consultations across the region, the development of a list of commercial development opportunities for various sectors such as tourism, forestry, agriculture and retail, as well as an assessment of the potential for the development of an industrial park.
“We are proud to partner with the Government of Canada and FedNor to strengthen the local economy and position the Municipality of French River as open for business,” said Claude Bouffard, Mayor of the Municipality of French River. “By developing a comprehensive strategic plan for our community, we are helping to create viable business opportunities and paving the way for the long-term economic success of this region.”
Funding for this project was provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports initiatives that strengthen community economic development, enhance business growth and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
