Harper Government invests to create jobs and strengthen the economy of the Parry Sound–Muskoka region
PARRY SOUND, Ontario, November 16, 2012 — The Honourable Tony Clement, Member of Parliament for Parry Sound–Muskoka and Minister for FedNor, today announced that the Harper Government is investing to support business development and economic growth in the Parry Sound–Muskoka region.
“Business development at the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport is a proven economic driver for this region and the Harper Government is proud to support the ongoing expansion of this important facility,” said Minister Clement. “Today’s announcement will help put in place the necessary infrastructure to attract private-sector investment to the area, create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity.”
The Harper Government’s investment of $484,650, through FedNor, will help Seguin Township extend fire suppression services at the airport and construct a new 10,000-square-foot hangar. Once complete, the hangar will be leased to Eagle Aircraft Inc. to accommodate its expansion from Toronto Island Airport to the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport. This expansion will immediately create five highly skilled jobs while generating new economic opportunities throughout the region.
“It’s an exciting time at the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport and today’s announcement will help us build on the positive economic momentum we continue to generate,” said David Conn, Mayor of Seguin Township. “I would like to thank the Government of Canada and FedNor for supporting our business development efforts and recognizing the immediate and long-term potential of this important project.”
The funding announced today is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that strengthen community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
